My15M and Optimiser now working. Warmed bike up with OEM ecu and then swapped to MyEcu. Starts but runs very roughly, cuts out with any throttle. Does not start cold with My15M however I feel happy all is as it should be, looking foward to the tuning side of things. Optimiser now showing full screen of text, makes a lot more sense when you can read all of it.
One problem with the 007 Optimiser pcb is with the switches wired direct to the circuit board the height of the board in relation to the case is fixed, determined by the height of the switch shoulder when the retaining nuts are done up. Unfortunately the 90 degree RJ socket is higher than the switch shoulder so pcb cannot be fitted into case. I remote mounted the socket and access it through the 'battery box'. A tidier solution would be a vertical RJ45 socket. |

There are 4 plastic mounts on the back casing that need to be removed so that the PCB sits against the back. There then should be no reason that the RJ45 doesn't fit.

I really beg to differ.
The switches are soldered to the pcb. The switches are held to the front cover by their retaining nuts. The distance between the top surface of the pcb and the inner surface of the front cover is determined by the height of switch shoulders, even adding washers does not allow enough room for the RJ45. As it is a 90d degree socket it would be neccesary to cut both the front of the front cover and the right end of the casing for access to the socket. A vertical socket could be accessed by cutting a hole to the right of switch 4, not ideal as the lead would probably get in the way of button 4. My solution was to remote the socket on flying leads and fit it into the area under the 'battery cover' accessed from the rear. It just fits between the two pots and the pcb. Once you have cut away the 'battery box' structure that is and rotated the pots 45 degrees to the left. I would like to cut a hole in the 'battery box' lid for access but that would mean cutting off its retaining clip, so for the moment I have left the cover off whilst in use. At least it is all tidy when not in use. With washers added to the four switches and the back of the RJ45 socket pressed hard up against the rear face of the front cover it still stands higher than the rear face of the pcb. It don't gonna fit! |

I've made at least half a dozen with the buttons through PCB design and not had any issues with it fitting.
I mount the buttons on the front finger tight. Then I mount the PCB over the buttons so that the button studs are flush with the top of the PCB ( actually the bottom of the PCB as the chip goes to the LCD ). The solder the buttons. I'm finishing another one today so I'll get some pics. |

I suppose it would be possible if the switches were soldered on such that the tails are straight and the switches spaced away from the pcb' This sounds fragile, in which case I think I would remote wire the switches if building another one.

I am now wondering if I have fitted the switches to the wrong side of the pcb, I put mine on with the legs bent to sit against the pcb and on the same side as the other components.

Many thanks, much easier to understand now.
Most assembly problems seem to be down to the poor instructions. For instance when faced with the pcb and the four switches one sees the eight large holes, large enough for the switch pins to fit right through with solder pads on the rear face, normally such switches would be mounted tight to the circuit board - without the specific instruction to set the switches high, such as in the photos, needless problems arise. I appreciate this is very much a hobby project designed by enthusiasts and supported by the forum but at the end of the the day it is a product - which we pay good money for. I really think you need to be fair with us and provide proper up to date instructions. Think of the time you would save in avoiding the endless emails folk currently send. Instructions need to be clearer and I would suggest not in HTML format which can give problems when being printed out, Word or PDF would be best. If you don't want to mail heavy hardcopy instructions just send a link. Please believe me when I say I am a fan of the MyEcu idea - just a little more support would make us all smile. |

This post actually reflects the title finally. I built up a second My15M and repaired my Optimiser, all seems well now with the bike running well, a little hesitant moving off idle but great after 2500rpm. At last I can start playing around, I have fitted an OEM O2 sensor, adjusted voltages as per Cliff's instructions for a Breva and went for a ride logging to a notebook using EcuController v1.66. Now trying to make sense of it all.
