Title: A couple Q's
Post by guzzisteve on 01/01/17 at 11:05:44
Been 3 yr's on the shelf but back w/MyEcu P8. I now have more time, made a map, put it in and the power on bike got interrupted (dodgy plug for ign sw).
Is this a bad thing?

It seems that it will not up load into ecu, it says it is w/green bar then locks. Turn off key, unplug & go ride. It seemed different but w/I suck it out to file it's the one I started with.
I tried it 5 times w/o interruption w/same results
My optimizer says the same thing, that the map hasn't changed.
I can modify it w/latest software(no blutooth android) but no upload
Any Idea's ?

I'm unclear as to what you are doing. Not sure what the green bar is as I've not run the PC software in years?

Which ECUController version did you get with the ECU and which latest did you try?
The ECUController will produce a log file if enabled. Why don't you log the power up of ECU and the download of the map and send that to me.

I think the ECU is a MK3 and the Optimizer is 4.8.73 when you power it up.
I got control version 151 & 160b w/I bought the P8. I was reading on here and got your last one 168 w/I used last to put a txt file map into the P8.
Everything works as it did 3yrs ago, cept loading a map into ecu.
After riding the bike and I go to make changes, there is no new map in the ecu.
I've never logged anything, mine is before android came out.

With 168, I believe you can turn on logging from ECU diagnostics.

What happens if you try and get the map in the ECU?

Is temperature readings etc. shown correctly on the computer? If not this sounds just like when I accidentally used a crossover cable as opposed to a straight one. But if you use the same cable as used for the Optimizer my theory fails.

All the readings in real time are correct as they appear.

I get the same map every time w/I get map from ecu. It doesn't change after I put an .ecu file in.
I don't know how to do logging, w/I hit that button it just makes a file and nothing goes into it. My laptop doesn't open a .raw file like it makes.
I use the wire I got w/MyEcu
Could I load a back-up into my optimizer from my laptop w/same cable?
I can change the map in the ecu w/optimizer and it is changed w/I get the file from ecu.

The raw file is just a text file. You can open it with your favourite editor.

It sounds like the only thing not working is the map upload. Do you see the dot traversing the grid as it transfers?
Perhaps the problem is with the map you have created. How did you modify it? Attach a copy of the map here.

Which version did you try to log with because the 1.68 I fired up wants to create c:\ECUout.txt by default?

Hope the logging worked, it seemed it did. Let's see if I can attach it here.

There you go, success.

Those file show the communication is working OK so your issues was just the file name you were using.

So, according to the log, the map goes in?

I didn't go out for a ride but I had the optimizer wired up and it was reading numbers off the old map. Then I was trying to change it w/optimizer.

I assumed it was OK because you said in your email "and it worked".

The log doesn't show any errors but there are a few anomalies. Both files look like you may of hit download multiple times because there seem to be two or three threads running through the cell entries simultaneously.

Try using v168 as it should have better logging and bug fixes.

The best way to see if it has worked is to upload the map after you have programmed it and compare with the original or the desired. They are usually some small rounding errors.

Sorry, success in adding attachments.  As for the file, hasn't gone in yet. I logged a start & run after the file upload to ecu but forgot to make it a txt file and I can't attach .raw..
I'll get another.
I only hit the button once for each process.
Could it be something from my laptop messing w/it, like download speed or other stuff. I know I have to shut off firewall and things to use some bike software as it interferes.

Another 2   #7 is the download into ecu.

                 #8 is bike running afterwards

Shutting off firewall and such made no diff. How about changing the bit speed in the port that communicates?

This time only one thread does the loading.
7 shows the map happily loading ( incrementing through the cells ) and then for some reason the ECU does seem to respond to further requests
This can be seen by the repeated g2A
Further the log shows no further updates from the ECU.

Unfortunately this problem could be bike, ECU, serial dongle or with the PC.
Were you located in Sydney?

I'm from USA
Can send it if you think it's a hard part.

That would involve some downtime and I think the ECU is the least likely to be the problem.

I suggest trying ECUController v168 first. The next best solution would be to send you a bluetooth dongle and get you to use the Android app.

I've been using the v168 controller. and the pc port is the same one I use to put maps in & out of the newer bikes.
I'm going to try a different port on this pc 1st.
I'm not a big blutooth/android user w/apps. I do have a tablet but seldom use it and use a simple flip phone.
The last time I was doing this my pc was new, a ways back.
OK, changed port, here is a download

Does the blutooth thing plug in to the board or do I have to solder it on?
I do have a stock ecu that I use w/Techlusion fuel box, so there's no down time. I also have carburetor Guzzi's I ride.

Interestingly it fails at the same point. I can't see a problem in the map there

If we could try two more things.

Try sending the original map to the ECU.
Try sending the new map with your original ECUController.

Here I went and changed the bit speed either faster or slower. I was reading the raw, it seems it did it at that same point. Just like you noticed.
Thanks for showing me what to look for!!

I'm thinking the same thing over different maps a letter got misplaced in the map.
I still have everything from w/I got it from you.
I will try what you suggest.

It's all working sweet again, map worked out nice so far.
Many thanks to Cliff for diagnostics and the fix. Pretty nice mfg customer service from half way round the globe.
