MyECU alert

Got this mail from Cliff:

Quote:
Recent news has indicated that the coil charge times used for starting may be excessive and result in over stressed or damaged FET transistors.

This is set by the CoilCharge0 setting in the map. This should current be set to 6000us ( 6ms ).

I suggest reducing this setting to 4000 instead. If that results in harder starting, try increasing by 500 until starting is ok.

Just wondering,
how did this problem occur,
have not read anything about this anywhere?!?

That was sent out weeks ago in response to http://cajinnovations.com/yabb0/YaBB.pl?num=1278819504 and waveforms I received.

Turns out the the original problems were bogus however the recommendation still stands. The original coil charge for cranking was excessive.

I lowered it to 4000 back then and haven't noticed any drawbacks with it after more than 5000 kms. Bike still starts immediately hot or cold, with a tiny amount of fast-idle when cold (not needed for starting, but for the initial idle speed).

BTW I'm pretty sure I could tune away the need for the fast idle completely if I tried to. Perhaps a rainy day  Smiley
